Zoe received her BFA from MassArt, her M.Ed from UMass Amherst and her CAGS from UMass Boston. She is a recipient of both national and international awards for her portrait photography. Zoe’s work is included in the permanent collection of the MFA Boston, permanent collection of Special Collections at the Boston Public Library and many private collections.
Recent exhibitions include the juried MassArt Alumni Show, Looking Forward Looking Backward, Free Speech: Art & Activism, Art of Pride, SE Center for Photography,“(un)expected families” at MFA Boston, Forever Young at Newport Art Museum, and solo shows at Harvard University and Buckingham, Brown & Nichols School. Her work has been featured at The National Portrait Gallery in London for the Taylor Wesson Photographic Portrait Prize Exhibition, The Kinsey Institute at Indiana University, The PRC in Boston, The Center for Photography at Woodstock, The Danforth Museum, Fitchburg Art Museum and Griffin Museum, among many others. Recent awards include the Jurors Choice at Cambridge Art Assoc. for the National Prize show, Directors Choice Award at Review Santa Fe, where she presented a public lecture. She has been the recipient of the Artist of the Year Award three years running and Best In Show for the National Prize Show at the Cambridge Art Association.
Zoe has been active on the Massachusetts College of Art and Design Alumni Leadership Council, where she served as vice-chair and donates her work yearly to the MassArt Auction. Zoe lives in Lexington, MA where she has a studio at the Munroe Center for the Arts, is the former chair of the Lexington Council for the Arts, is on the organizing committee for Lexington Open Studios and curates the Gallery at Munroe Center for the Arts.
In her work, Zoe investigates mainstream groups as well as non-conforming subcultures. Her recent series include several long-term projects including a twelve-year project making portraits of LGBTQIA youth at their Prom; a personal narrative project focusing on her own family, portraits of elders aging with dignity and a project documenting gay culture in Provincetown with street photography and formal portraits of drag queens and other gender flexible people.
